The 5 Things I Always Put in My Kids’ Easter Baskets
How I Keep Easter Simple and Intentional

It is way too easy for me to get out of hand with gift giving for my children for holidays and special occasions. That instant shopping culture — the more, more, more lifestyle that is constantly flaunted to us — can be so easy to sink into. Trust me, I’ve been there!!
But something I’ve noticed as I get older is I just simply don’t want disposable crap anymore. Whether that’s toys, clothes or home goods. Give me the good quality stuff and let’s care for it well, so we can have it for years.
That’s why I came up with a simple strategy to keep me from going overboard at Easter!
In our house, I want to keep things simple, predictable, and useful. Wow I sound so fun LOL.
So every year I include the same five categories in my kids’ baskets.
Simple things done well — that’s always the goal.
These are the five things I always include:
• An Easter outfit for church
• A consumable treat
• A book
• A small activity
• Something for outside play
That’s it.
It keeps the basket fun but intentional.
Every year my kids get something new to wear for Easter church. If church isn’t your thing, this could be an outfit to wear to a family party or your local Easter egg hunt.
Occasionally I do like to still shop in store!
TJ Maxx is my favorite for items like these!
I also linked some similar items from brands I love on Amazon for your convenience.
Examples:
• dress
• cute socks
• hair bow
• shoes
This is definitely my daughter’s favorite part of the basket…
…and I’m pretty sure in a few years it will be my son’s least favorite part 😆
2. A Consumable Treat
I’ve realized that around holidays, candy always seems to show up whether I buy it or not.
Between school events, egg hunts, and family gatherings — there’s plenty.
So I just stopped buying it.
Instead, I just buy some of the kids’ favorite “fun” snacks that we don’t always keep stocked. Here’s what I bought this year:
Books are one of my favorite things to include in Easter baskets. We can read it right there when they open their baskets, which elongates the special gift-giving moment.
Childrens books are not all created equally… Have you every bought a childrens book based on the cover and then got it home to read it and been like…. wow this makes no sense at all??? Hahaha cause SAME! I can always count on the Very Hungry Caterpillar and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie books though!
4. A Small Activity
I like including something that gives the kids something to do right away.
Otherwise they open the basket and five minutes later…
“Now what?”
Examples:
• sticker books
• craft kits
• puzzles
Pro tip: this normally keeps the kids busy if you want to curl your hair or pick out a special outfit for yourself to feel beautiful that day😊
5. Something for Outside Play
Easter usually means spring is finally here (all Midwesterners say YAY!!).
So I love including something that gives us a peek toward the warm weather we have coming. Typically it’s something that I feel like they need or will use this spring or summer.
Examples:
• rain boots
• sidewalk chalk
• butterfly garden kit (something I’m super excited about this year!)
What I love about this approach is that my kids know what to expect. Growing up I always craved consistency, so I always try to provide my children with it when I can.
They of course get excited about the basket every year, but it never feels excessive.
It also keeps me from overthinking things or buying random filler items.
Just five simple categories.
Simple things done well.

I find that holidays and special events feel the most special not when they are overdone, but when they are thoughtfully and intentionally curated.
Let me know if this helped you!
